These 18th Century shoe buckles are exact reproductions from an original pair that Mr. James Goucher owns - hence the name.
Listed are the JAMES in a antiqued silver finish. They are solid cast, nickel-plated metal that won't bend or break.
You will receive a pair (two). The buckles measure 2-1/4 inches long, 1-3/4 inches wide, and will accommodate a strap (latchet) width of 1-1/2 inches. They are easily attached and removed to accommodate shoes made by all different makers.
Overall, I love them. They will work great for my impression of Richard Caswell.
When I ordered my shoes they were on back order but then they showed up at my front door 2 day later! It was an amazing surprise. That’s quick service even when you’re not expecting it to be back ordered.
Although I‘ve not yet had occasion to use the buckles yet, my inspection upon their receipt was generally satisfactory. They are well made and finished and will find frequent employment when abatement of the virus plague Once again allows forays into the 18th century. They are suitable for portraying “the middling sort”. They are ornamental but plainly cast, with rounded smooth edges and corners. They are attractive but not cut as would be appropriate for a ‘Fancy’ social meeting with the burgesses or governor.
